Announcing the Nominees: Best Picture of 1930!

An antiwar epic, a shocking surrealist masterpiece, a hilarious farce, and two of cinema’s most fascinating women shared the spotlight today as the Moonlight Awards unveiled the nominees for Best Picture of 1930.

Silver screen stars Cosmo Brown and Norma Desmond announced the nominees at a press conference in Hollywood.

“True, it’s been a crazy couple of years, what with these new talking pictures and all,” said Brown, “but we’re still here, and we’re still committed, and we’re still going to bring those folks into those theaters and make ‘em listen, make ‘em listen, make ‘em listen!”

Brown then abruptly sprinted off the stage and did a double backflip off the rear wall.

“I was not informed I was to share this moment with him,” said Desmond.

When the dust settled, five films stood recognized as the Best Picture nominees for 1930:

  • L’Age D’Or

  • All Quiet on the Western Front

  • Animal Crackers

  • Anna Christie

  • The Blue Angel

The winning film will be announced in two weeks, at the inaugural ceremony of the Moonlight Awards - recognizing the top movie of each year that has best stood the test of time, in terms of sustained popularity, continued influence, and critical and scholarly acclaim.
